Small, tightly settled residential suburb roughly 16 km south of the Sydney CBD in the St George area — at about 0.6 km² one of the smallest suburbs around, with parks covering just 2.1% of its area. The name is Aboriginal in origin, from a local term meaning 'make your abode here' or 'remain here'. Allawah is strongly multicultural: the 2021 census counted 5,351 residents, only 34.6% born in Australia, with the next most common birthplaces China (16.0%), Nepal (12.2%), the Philippines (3.7%) and Hong Kong (2.6%), and just 27.6% speaking only English at home.
