Multicultural, mostly residential family suburb in the St George district of southern Sydney, 11 km south of the CBD in the Bayside Council LGA, with 12,023 residents at the 2021 census (up 13.5% on 2016). Housing is a mix of low-density detached and semi-detached houses, medium-density townhouses and blocks of flats, and the village shopping centre clusters around Firth and Belmore streets beside Arncliffe railway station. It is a suburb of strong migrant heritage — the Al-Zahra College sits next to its mosque on Wollongong Road, St Francis Xavier's Catholic School fronts Forest Road, and Arncliffe RSL and the Arncliffe Scots club anchor the local community. Arncliffe lies south of the Cooks River and Wolli Creek, and its northern high-density river corridor was split off as the separate suburb of Wolli Creek in 2002 — the two suburbs are inseparable in practice, with Arncliffe's station at one end of the Wolli Creek precinct.

Transport
Arncliffe railway station (heritage-listed, on Firth Street) is on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra line, with trains to the city via Wolli Creek and Sydenham and south toward Rockdale, Kogarah and the Sutherland Shire. The Princes Highway runs north-south through the suburb towards the city and south towards Rockdale and Kogarah, and a 4 km motorway tunnel (M5 East) runs partly underneath Arncliffe with entrances and exits near Princes Highway and Marsh Street, close to the airport. Bus routes through the suburb include Route 473 (Rockdale–Bardwell Valley–Arncliffe–Turrella station) and Route 420 (Mascot and the airport terminals, through Arncliffe to Rockdale and on to Westfield Burwood).
Schools
Arncliffe Public School — NSW government primary school on the corner of Avenal Street and the Princes Highway. Athelstane Public School — government primary on the corner of Wollongong Road and Athelstane Avenue. St Francis Xavier's Catholic School — Catholic systemic primary beside the church on Forest Road. Al-Zahra College — independent Islamic school beside the mosque on Wollongong Road. Arncliffe West Infants School on Loftus Street is technically located in the adjacent suburb of Turrella. There is no government high school within Arncliffe itself — the former Arncliffe Domestic Science Secondary School behind the primary school has closed.
Shopping & Amenities
Arncliffe's main shopping centre is centred on Firth Street and Belmore Street beside Arncliffe railway station, extending part of the way along Forest Road, with shops also scattered along Wollongong Road towards Bexley. Commercial and light-industrial developments line the Princes Highway and surrounding streets in the suburb's northern parts. Arncliffe Library (Firth Street), the Arncliffe Community Centre, YMCA and Coronation Hall (Barden Street) and Arncliffe RSL serve the local community. The shops, restaurants and supermarkets of the adjacent Wolli Creek town centre (Brodie Spark Drive/Arncliffe Street precinct) are a short walk from the station.
Parks & Outdoors
Arncliffe Park (71A Wollongong Road) is a Bayside Council sports ground and the suburb's main park, with the Arncliffe War Memorial in its centre. Riverine Park at 146 West Botany Street is a green space alongside the Cooks River at the suburb's north-eastern edge. Earl Park, Arncliffe's historic sports ground, was a home ground of the St George rugby league club. Kogarah Golf Course — partly within Arncliffe, with the heritage-listed Western Outfall Main Sewer running along Valda Avenue off its south side — is one of the district's landmark courses. The Wolli Creek valley corridor, whose creek-side parklands and walking trails start along Arncliffe's northern boundary, is another nearby recreation asset.
Property Market
The median house price in Arncliffe was around $1,874,000 (median house price, CoreLogic via YIP, 96 house sales over the 12 months to May 2026, +9.59% annual growth); realestate.com.au's Arncliffe suburb profile shows $1,863,972 median over the last year (mid-2026). See our full Sydney property price map for how the suburb compares across the city. Trackers largely agree for once: CoreLogic via YIP puts the house median at $1,874,000 and realestate.com.au at $1,863,972, while Domain's suburb profile reads around $1.70M — so a working range is roughly $1.7M–$1.9M. Arncliffe covers about 3.0 km² with 10 parks covering nearly 30% of the area, and its housing mix is evenly split between period and modern detached/semi-detached houses (largely owner-occupied, 56% in 2021) and a substantial unit stock concentrated near the station and the Wolli Creek edge — 148 unit sales a year versus 96 houses. Population grew 13.5% between 2016 and 2021 to 12,023, driven by apartment development on the Wolli Creek corridor, much of which was carved out of Arncliffe's original boundary.
New Developments
The Wolli Creek corridor — Arncliffe's high-density northern neighbour, split from Arncliffe in 2002 — has been one of Sydney's biggest apartment growth areas, with unit median values up about 8.4% over five years to mid-2026 and large complexes such as the Proximity development on Arncliffe Street (Wolli Creek) selling steadily. Apartment supply is also arriving within Arncliffe proper: three new and off-the-plan developments under $850,000 were listed in Arncliffe/Wolli Creek as of 2026. The M5 East motorway tunnels, which run partly underneath Arncliffe with portals near Princes Highway and Marsh Street, are the suburb's major infrastructure asset shaping its transport access. Redevelopment of the Princes Highway and West Botany Street industrial frontages continues to add mixed-use and shop-top housing as the corridor densifies toward the airport and Wolli Creek station precinct.
Jobs & Local Economy
Retail and commercial employment centres on Arncliffe's village shopping precinct (Firth and Belmore streets, Forest Road) and the light-industrial and commercial developments along the Princes Highway and West Botany Street corridors. Local institutions — Arncliffe RSL, the Arncliffe Scots club, the Al-Zahra College and mosque precinct and St Francis Xavier's school — anchor neighbourhood employment and services. Sydney Airport, adjacent on the suburb's eastern edge, is the dominant regional employment engine within a short drive. For residents, the CBD commute is a staple of local life: T4 trains reach Central in roughly 20–25 minutes.
