Baulkham Hills is an established, predominantly residential suburb of the Hills District, about 28 km north-west of the Sydney CBD, and the historic namesake and former administrative seat of The Hills Shire. The suburb grew around the Baulkham Hills Junction of Windsor Road, Old Northern Road and Seven Hills Road, and now offers family houses close to strong schools - including top-ranked selective Baulkham Hills High School - with the M2 motorway and the M1 metro at neighbouring Norwest just minutes away. CDC NSW buses do the local heavy lifting: routes 610X, 614X and 615X are express CBD services using M2 bus lanes, 612X runs to North Sydney/Milsons Point, 613X links Chapel Lane with Town Hall/QVB, and route 600 gives a high-frequency connection toward Parramatta and Pennant Hills. The road network pivots on Baulkham Hills Junction, with the M2 Hills Motorway reached via the Windsor Road exit.

Baulkham Hills High School - a government, fully selective co-educational high school established in 1971 (officially opened 1974) that consistently ranks among NSW's top HSC performers and draws academically selected students from across Sydney - is the suburb's headline school. Crestwood High School is a public co-educational comprehensive high school (est. 1981) on Chapel Lane, and Model Farms High School is a public high school (est. 1975) within the suburb. FAL Group has lodged plans and a demolition permit with The Hills Shire Council for an 88-apartment project at 10-16 Seven Hills Road on the town-centre fringe - the proposal exceeds current height (16 m) and dwelling (about 50-unit) limits, so rezoning is part of the planning proposal.
