Belrose, NSW 2085

Bushland-ringed, strongly residential family suburb roughly 19 km north-east of the Sydney CBD, in the Northern Beaches local government area and part of the Forest District, colloquially known as 'The Forest'. The name 'Belrose' is said to combine two native plant names — the Christmas Bell and the bush rose — that were predominant in the area. At the 2021 census Belrose had 8,726 residents, 69.9% born in Australia, in a quiet, leafy setting of family homes on generous blocks: 83.8% of homes were owner-occupied in 2021, households are predominantly couples with children, and residents mostly work in professional occupations. The suburb doubles as the Forest District's shopping and cultural hub, with the Glenrose Village and HomeCo. Belrose retail centres, Glen Street Theatre and Belrose library.

Public transport is bus-based — Belrose has no railway station, and the nearest train/metro interchange is Chatswood, reached by bus. CDC NSW (Forest Coach Lines) routes 270, 271, 282, 283 and 284 stop on Forest Way at Garigal Road near the shopping centre, linking Belrose with the city-bound Forest District corridor, Frenchs Forest and Chatswood (HomeCo Belrose directions). Forest Way, Warringah Road and Mona Vale Road are the main roads out of the suburb.

Schools

Two NSW government co-educational primary schools are in Belrose : Belrose Public School and Wakehurst Public School at 8 Glen Street, which draws its students predominantly from Belrose and the surrounding suburbs of Davidson and Frenchs Forest. There is no high school inside the suburb — government secondary students are served by high schools in the surrounding Forest District, including Killarney Heights High School in Killarney Heights and Davidson High School in Frenchs Forest, with The Forest High School's relocated campus at Allambie Heights nearby.

Belrose is the Forest District's main shopping centre. Glenrose Village Shopping Centre at 56–58 Glen Street — the older daily-needs centre, formerly Stockland Glenrose — is anchored by Woolworths with specialty shops, services including Australia Post, and sits near Glen Street Theatre.
