Historic town and suburb about 65 km south-west of the Sydney CBD on the Nepean River, part of the Macarthur region. Camden is the heritage township of the Macarthur district: it was laid out in 1840 by James and William Macarthur on the Nepean River crossing of the family's Camden Park estate, with its heritage main street Argyle Street and a town core rich in state and commonwealth heritage listings including Camden Post Office and the St John's Anglican Church precinct. It was the administrative centre of Camden Council until July 2016, when the council moved to Oran Park. The suburb itself had 3,378 residents at the 2021 census across a compact 4.5 km² with 2,059 properties, and it functions as the historic commercial and civic heart of one of Sydney's fastest-growing LGAs.

Transport
Camden has no operating railway station — the Camden railway line to Campbelltown and Sydney closed in 1963. Bus services operated by Transit Systems (Sydney's South West bus region) link the town with Campbelltown, with Macarthur railway station on the T8 Airport & South line the closest railhead. Camden Airport, immediately west of the town, is used mainly by flying schools and general aviation rather than scheduled services.
