Established inner-south-west suburb 13.4 km south-west of the Sydney CBD, on the southern bank of the Cooks River, and one of the administrative centres of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown — the Town Hall of the former Municipality of Canterbury was moved to Campsie in 1962. At the 2021 census it had 26,132 residents: 28.6% born in Australia, with the most common ancestries Chinese 34.5% and Nepalese 9.6%, and 21.5% speaking Mandarin and 8.6% Cantonese at home — the multicultural commercial-hub character the suburb is known for. Transport
Campsie railway station is a heritage-listed station on the Bankstown railway line (the T3 Bankstown Line corridor) in the centre of the suburb on Beamish Street; the line opened in 1895 and was electrified in 1926. The station closed on 30 September 2024 (along with the rest of the Sydenham–Bankstown section) so the line can be converted to Sydney Metro standards, and it is being redesigned with metro-compatible platforms and platform screen doors before reopening on the Metro North West & Bankstown Line. As of mid-2026 replacement buses were still running between Sydenham and Bankstown while metro testing continued, with no confirmed opening date (The Guardian, July 2026). Canterbury Road is a major 11 km arterial through the suburb connecting the inner suburbs with Bankstown, and local bus routes serve Beamish Street and Canterbury Road.
