Casula, NSW 2170

Family suburb about 34 km south-west of the Sydney CBD and the first suburb immediately south of Liverpool on the Hume Highway and Main Southern railway line, in the City of Liverpool LGA. It grew from 19th-century poultry farms and market gardens into a postwar residential suburb — Casula Public School dates from 1959 and Casula High School from 1973 — with an established mix of detached and medium-density family housing: roughly 71% separate houses, 25% semi-detached/townhouses and around 4% apartments. Casula railway station (opened 1 November 1894, unstaffed) sits on the Main Southern line and is served by Sydney Trains T2 Leppington & Inner West Line and T5 Cumberland Line services. It received an easy-access upgrade with lifts as part of the Southern Sydney Freight Line works opened to the east of the station in January 2013. The Hume Highway cuts through the centre of the suburb, and Transit Systems bus services link Casula to Liverpool and Liverpool station, with buses also running between Casula and Glenfield via the highway. Glenfield station, the major South-West Sydney interchange, also serves Casula and is the station of choice for many local commuters because of easier access and significantly faster services into Sydney.

Casula Public School — NSW government primary school on De Meyrick Avenue, opened 1959. Casula High School — co-educational comprehensive government high school (Years 7–12) opened in 1973, drawing students from Casula, Glenfield, Prestons and surrounding suburbs. All Saints Catholic Senior College — Catholic systemic senior college (Years 11–12), the suburb's only Catholic school, established in 1987.

Casula Mall — Dexus-owned convenience shopping centre on the Hume Highway (Kurrajong Road corner), anchored by Coles and serving Casula, Glenfield, Lurnea, Liverpool and Prestons (Casula Mall website; Dexus; openinghoursau). Casula Central — smaller local centre at 633–639 Hume Highway (Casula Central). Casula Parklands — a roughly 15-hectare recreational precinct on the banks of the Georges River with a fenced off-leash dog park (separate small- and large-dog areas) and a new regional-scale adventure playground that cost about $4 million to build (dog.directory; ParraParents). The Georges River forms part of the suburb's eastern edge, with river views from around the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, which stands on the riverbank beside the station.
