Concord West, NSW 2138

A suburb in Sydney's inner-west about 16 km west of the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay; it shares postcode 2138 with neighbouring Rhodes, and the portion of Concord north and west of Concord Golf Club and Majors Bay Reserve was gazetted as the separate suburb of Concord West in 1993. At the 2021 census Concord West had 6,178 residents, with the most common ancestries Australian 18.2%, English 18.0%, Italian 17.8%, Chinese 14.7% and Irish 9.4%, and 60.9% born in Australia. The suburb blends family-oriented residential streets with apartments along the Concord Road corridor and around the station, and is distinguished by two heritage riverside estates — Yaralla (the Dame Eadith Walker Hospital) and the Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital buildings (now the Rivendell child and adolescent unit) — as well as being home to Concord Repatriation General Hospital, one of Sydney's major public hospitals, which has its own postcode of 2139.

Concord West railway station is on the Main North railway line, opened 1 September 1887 and rebuilt in 2014 with an Easy Access upgrade and an additional platform as part of the Northern Sydney Freight Corridor program; it is served by Sydney Trains T9 Northern Line services, with the station roughly 14.54 km by rail from Central. On the T9, Rhodes is the next station toward Hornsby and North Strathfield the next toward the city/Gordon via Central. The station is staffed on weekdays 6am–7pm and has four platforms on four tracks. Various bus routes also service the Concord West area, and the suburb's heavy reliance on the T9 means most commuters travel via the station on Queen Street. Note: no T7 Olympic Park branch service runs through Concord West — the Olympic Park line operates separately from Lidcombe — so rail passengers to Olympic Park change via the T9/other lines or take buses.

Concord West has a small group of shops beside Concord West railway station, with another commercial area along Concord Road, plus the Concord Hotel pub on Concord Road. The heritage riverfront grounds of Yaralla (Dame Eadith Walker Hospital) and the Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital buildings (Rivendell) form the suburb's largest open green spaces, and the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway near the repatriation hospital commemorates Australian soldiers of the Second World War New Guinea campaign.
