It is a compact modern estate suburb of roughly 0.5 km² with contemporary, often architect-designed family homes built from 2011 onward, and a young, affluent demographic: the population grew 73.6% between 2016 (792) and 2021 (1,375) — overwhelmingly couples with children in professional occupations, with about 92% of homes owner-occupied at the 2021 census. Greenhills Beach is essentially the residential face of the famous Cronulla sand-dune coastline, with the surf beach of the same name at its eastern edge.

Bus route 987 (U-Go Mobility) links Kurnell to Cronulla via North Cronulla, running along Captain Cook Drive at the suburb's western edge, and is the local connection to the rail network. The nearest station is Cronulla railway station — the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line terminus, roughly 2–3 km south in the immediately adjacent suburb of Cronulla.
