Hobartville is an established post-war residential suburb of Sydney's outer north-west, sitting on the eastern edge of the Richmond urban area next to RAAF Base Richmond. The suburb takes its name from the 1828 Hobartville homestead on Kurrajong Road — built by William Cox Jr on an 1804 grant, later famous as a Hereford cattle stud and thoroughbred stud, and now listed on the NSW State Heritage Register. The horse-stud land was subdivided in the 1960s with the first houses built in 1969, and it has since become a quiet family suburb of detached houses closely tied to the nearby RAAF base, with many defence families among its residents. At the 2021 census Hobartville had 2,712 residents, 81.6% born in Australia, and almost all dwellings were detached houses with 3 or more bedrooms.

Hobartville has no railway station in-suburb, but Richmond station sits just across the suburb boundary in adjoining Richmond — it is the terminus of the T1 Richmond branch line, about 60.68 km from Sydney's Central station, and is easily reached on foot or by a short drive/bus ride. Buses are operated by Busways as part of the Hawkesbury network, with services linking Hobartville to Richmond, Windsor and surrounding areas, plus dedicated school services such as the Hobartville PS to Richmond High School run.
