Semi-rural suburb on the ridge above the Northern Beaches, about 28 km north of the Sydney CBD in the Northern Beaches Council area, roughly 2 km from the coast at Mona Vale. The suburb is mostly acreage lots, bushland and increasing housing development, and is named after Ingleside House, an 1880s mansion built by Baron von Bieren, an industrial chemist whose firm founded the Australian Gunpowder and Explosives Manufacturing Company in the area. At the 2021 census just 1,030 people lived here, with the western localities of Ingleside Heights and Tumbledown Dick inside the suburb. It is a quiet, semi-rural enclave of large bush blocks on the edge of the national parks, and is home to the Sydney Bahá'í Temple, a landmark of world significance.

Transport
Public transport is bus-based — Ingleside has no railway station. Route 197 runs along Mona Vale Road, linking Ingleside with Mona Vale and Elanora Heights to the east and Terrey Hills to the west, with services continuing toward Gordon on the North Shore line. Route 156 runs along McCarrs Creek Road along the suburb's northern edge toward Mona Vale (Transit app). For city trips, passengers change at Mona Vale interchange for B-Line express buses, or connect through to Gordon/Chatswood stations on the North Shore line.
Schools
Galstaun College (Hamazkaine A&S Galstaun College) — the suburb's only school, an Armenian community independent college at 5 Chiltern Road, founded in 1986, enrolling around 320 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. There is no NSW government public school in Ingleside; the nearest government primary is Elanora Heights Public School at 43 Elanora Road in the immediately adjacent suburb of Elanora Heights (NSW Department of Education), with secondary options nearby in neighbouring Mona Vale and Cromer.
Shopping & Amenities
Ingleside is a low-amenity, semi-rural suburb: commercial services are limited to a handful of small local businesses along Mona Vale Road. Daily shopping, cafes, banks and services are found a short drive away in the neighbouring suburb of Mona Vale, whose village centre sits just to the east.
Parks & Outdoors
The Sydney Bahá'í Temple — the world's fourth Bahá'í House of Worship, completed in 1961 and set in landscaped gardens in the suburb — is Ingleside's landmark, described by architectural historian Jennifer Taylor as among Sydney's four most significant religious buildings of the twentieth century. Ingleside Chase Bushland Reserve — a 70-hectare council-owned bushland reserve on the Warriewood Escarpment between Ingleside, Elanora Heights and Warriewood, dominated by Sydney Coastal Dry Sclerophyll Forest with walking tracks. The suburb's bushland fringe sits between Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to the north-west and Garigal National Park to the south-west, with the vast majority of Ingleside's land semi-rural acreage and native bush.
Property Market
The median house price in Ingleside was around ~$2.73M (median house price for Ingleside, auspropertyfinder estimates from NSW Valuer General sales data, retrieved Sep 2026) (mid-2026). See our full Sydney property price map for how the suburb compares across the city. Ingleside is an acreage market: most stock is large-lot and semi-rural (mostly houses on 700 m²+ blocks per sale records), and sales volumes are low given a population of just 1,030. Trackers put the median house price around $2.7M — auspropertyfinder estimates $2.73M with a gross rental yield of about 2.1% — though small sample sizes make some free trackers unreliable (one lists an implausible $660K median); sale prices swing widely with lot size and views (auspropertyfinder; property.carto.au). Households are affluent — median household income was $3,136/week at the 2021 census — reflecting large bushland properties and professional incomes.
New Developments
Ingleside Precinct — the suburb is the site of a 700-hectare land release area between Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Garigal National Park and Ingleside Chase Reserve. The NSW Department of Planning and Northern Beaches Council are planning a new residential community with a defined conservation area, services and infrastructure; the department's draft plan 'Planning for a Sustainable Future: The Ingleside Precinct' was prepared after a gateway determination on 10 June 2022 and publicly exhibited, and the precinct sits within the broader Warriewood/Ingleside urban release context.
Jobs & Local Economy
Local employment is small-scale and semi-rural: Galstaun College is one of the suburb's few on-site employers, and much of the land-based activity involves acreage, agistment and hobby-farm use. Median household income of $3,136/week (2021 census) reflects a largely professional population, many working from home or commuting to Mona Vale, Chatswood/Macquarie business corridors or the Sydney CBD via Mona Vale Road and the B-Line.
