Jannali, NSW 2226

Jannali is a suburb in southern Sydney, 28 km south of the Sydney CBD in the Sutherland Shire local government area; the majority of its land use is residential and bushland reserve, and the suburb is bisected by the north–south railway line. Its name is an Indigenous word meaning 'the Place of the Moon'. Development followed the arrival of the railway in 1884, but the station was not built until 1931, after which many more homes were built post-World War II when blocks were offered to returned servicemen — giving Jannali its established, family-home character. At the 2021 census it had 6,632 residents (median age 39), with 30.2% holding a bachelor degree or higher and a median household income of $2,220/week (ABS 2021 via QuickStats).
