Kingsgrove, NSW 2208

Residential suburb of Southern Sydney about 13 km south-west of the Sydney CBD, lying across the local government areas of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown, Bayside Council and Georges River Council. The name comes from 'King's Grove', the 500-acre farm granted in 1804 to Hannah Laycock, wife of Thomas Laycock, named in honour of Governor Philip King; the railway arrived in 1931 with Kingsgrove station and suburban development followed. At the 2021 census it had 12,881 residents — 56.6% born in Australia — in a strongly multicultural mix led by Greek (20.3%) and Chinese (19.1%) ancestries. It is a family suburb of detached homes: 71.4% of dwellings were owner-occupied in 2021 and households are predominantly couples with children. Kingsgrove Road, with its shops, eateries and Kingsgrove RSL Club, forms the commercial spine around the station.

Kingsgrove railway station is in the suburb on the T8 Airport & South Line of the Sydney Trains network, opened in 1931; the line provides direct access to both the Sydney CBD and Sydney Airport. Kingsgrove Road has entrance and exit ramps to the M5 Motorway, and the western end of the M8 Motorway also exits onto the M5 in Kingsgrove. Two bus depots operate in the suburb — one for Transit Systems services and one for U-Go Mobility — and bus routes include the 423 and 423X to the Sydney CBD via Earlwood, Marrickville and Newtown, plus local routes 446, 455, 490, 492 and 493 linking to Campsie, Hurstville, Kogarah, Rockdale, Roselands Shopping Centre, Earlwood and Burwood; the NightRide N20 supplements late-night T8 services.

Kingsgrove RSL Club sits in Brocklehurst Lane behind Kingsgrove Road, and a small group of shops on Stoney Creek Road is known as the Kingsway locality. Commercial and industrial developments line the northern side of the railway line west of Kingsgrove Road.
