Leura, NSW 2780

Heritage village town in the City of Blue Mountains LGA, about 100 km west of the Sydney CBD and only 2 km east of Katoomba, with which it merges along its western edge. At 985 m elevation it experiences four distinct seasons with occasional winter snow. At the 2021 census Leura had 4,503 residents, a decrease from the previous census, with 71.2% born in Australia. Self-styled 'the Garden Village', it is known for its formal English-style cool-climate gardens, many influenced or designed by landscape gardener Paul Sorensen, and for the annual Leura Gardens Festival held in October. Its heritage shopping strip on Leura Mall — most commercial buildings dating from 1900 to the 1920s — is the focus of daily life and gives the town its boutique village character. In 2016 Leura was named among Australia's top 50 'most irresistible, exotic, historic and postcard-worthy' small towns.

Transport

Leura railway station (Railway Parade) is on the Main Western line and served by Sydney Trains Blue Mountains Line services running between Sydney Central and Lithgow. The station opened on 6 December 1890 and was rebuilt in 1902, and it is heritage-listed. Blue Mountains Transit bus routes 685 (North Wentworth Falls–Katoomba), 690K (Springwood–Katoomba) and 695 (South Leura–Katoomba) connect the station with the surrounding villages.
