Mixed residential, commercial and industrial suburb of south-western Sydney roughly 24 km west of the CBD in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown; at the 2021 census it had 4,074 residents. Milperra is an Aboriginal word meaning 'a gathering of people', and the area — once known as Thorns Bush — became the Bankstown Soldier Settlement after World War I, with many streets named after WWI battles and officers. It sits just north of the Georges River with leafy residential pockets (home to former residents including swimmer Ian Thorpe and Tesla chair Robyn Denholm), and is also known as the site of the 1984 'Milperra Massacre' bikie shootout, which occurred at the Viking Tavern on the suburb's boundary with Revesby.

Mount Saint Joseph, Milperra — systemic Roman Catholic comprehensive single-sex secondary day school for girls (Years 7–12), founded in 1960 by the Sisters of St Joseph and based on the values and spirit of Mary MacKillop; it sits within Milperra with an enrolment of about 912 students. Both schools are physically located in the suburb.

Milperra's retail is a mix of small local shopping villages: Milperra Shopping Village on Bullecourt Avenue, Ashford Village at the corner of Bullecourt and Ashford Avenues, and another small group of shops at the corner of Pozieres and Amiens Avenues opposite the public school. The suburb's biggest development story is the former university campus: the Milperra College of Advanced Education (est. 1974) became Western Sydney University's Bankstown campus in 1989, and the campus closed in 2023 when the university opened its new vertical Bankstown City Campus in the Bankstown CBD. Against the wishes of local residents, the university then teamed with developer Mirvac to redevelop the old campus land into a low-rise residential district of at least 430 dwellings, rather than repurposing it for local services. Elsewhere the suburb's established industrial and commercial areas along Milperra Road continue to see individual light-industrial and warehouse developments, with new housing largely limited to infill.

Milperra is an employment suburb in its own right: substantial industrial, warehouse and commercial premises line Milperra Road on the northern edge, and retail jobs are spread across the Bullecourt Avenue shopping villages. Bankstown Airport, immediately to the north in the adjoining Bankstown Aerodrome locality, hosts aviation, logistics and engineering businesses that employ many local workers, and residents also commute to the Bankstown CBD, Liverpool and the Sydney CBD via the T8 and M5 corridors.
