Quiet residential family suburb of southern Sydney about 18 km south of the Sydney CBD, part of the St George area; the name is an Aboriginal word meaning 'sun', fitting for an area once called 'Sunning Hill Farm'. Narwee grew around the railway after Narwee station opened on 21 December 1931, when residents were mostly poultry farmers and market gardeners; little building happened during the Depression and World War II, and the suburb grew rapidly in the 1950s as young families settled there. Its main street, Broadarrow Road, runs from King Georges Road in Beverly Hills to just past Bonds Road in Riverwood. At the 2021 census Narwee had 5,411 residents with a median age of 40 (ABS QuickStats), a multicultural community on the T8 rail corridor between Beverly Hills and Riverwood.
