North Parramatta is an established suburb of Sydney about 24 km north-west of the CBD in the City of Parramatta, immediately adjoining the Parramatta CBD across the river. It is dominated by Lake Parramatta and The King's School, which together comprise almost 50% of the suburb's land area, and carries deep heritage layers: the Parramatta Correctional Centre (former gaol), St Patrick's Cemetery and Lake Parramatta are heritage-listed, and the suburb hosts the Parramatta North heritage core around the old Cumberland Hospital precinct. At the 2021 census it had 12,064 residents, with housing skewed to higher density: 58.2% of occupied private dwellings were flats, units or apartments, 24.2% separate houses and 17.2% townhouses.

Transport
Transport is a mix of bus, light rail and nearby heavy rail. The 609 bus (Hillsbus/CDC NSW) loops from Prince Street and Gloucester Avenue past Lake Parramatta and onto Iron Street before reaching the Parramatta bus interchange. North Parramatta contains two L4 Parramatta Light Rail stops — Benaud Oval and Ngara — which opened in December 2024, linking the suburb to Westmead, Parramatta CBD and Carlingford. The nearest train station is Parramatta station, just south of the suburb, on the T1 North Shore/Western and T5 Cumberland lines, with the new Sydney Metro West Parramatta station planned for the CBD.
Schools
Public and independent schools sit within the suburb: Parramatta North Public School (NSW government K–6 primary on Albert Street, North Parramatta) (school website), Burnside Public School and St Monica's Primary School, and The King's School — Australia's oldest independent school — whose campus occupies a large part of the suburb. No campus is inside North Parramatta itself, but Western Sydney University's Parramatta campus is directly adjacent: its main Parramatta South campus (the historic Female Orphan School, home of the Whitlam Institute) sits in Rydalmere on Victoria Road at James Ruse Drive, which borders North Parramatta to the south-east, and the newer Parramatta City campus is in the adjoining Parramatta CBD at 100 George Street.
Shopping & Amenities
The suburb sits immediately north of the Parramatta CBD, so Westfield Parramatta, Church Street and the full range of city shops, services and dining are minutes away by bus, light rail or car. Within the suburb, local convenience shops and services are strung along the Church Street corridor (Church Street runs through North Parramatta — home to listings such as 529 Church Street), with Parramatta Square, the Riverside Theatres and the civic precinct adjoining to the south.
