Northbridge, NSW 2063

Quiet, leafy harbourside suburb occupying a peninsula that extends into Middle Harbour, surrounded by bush and water on three sides with no through traffic; it lies about 6 km north of the Sydney CBD and 3 km north of the North Sydney CBD, in the City of Willoughby local government area. At the 2021 census Northbridge had 6,493 residents, with a strongly family and prestige housing profile: 74.1% of occupied private dwellings were separate houses and the average household held 2.9 people. The Dictionary of Sydney calls it 'a tranquil, leafy but rugged peninsula jutting eastwards into Middle Harbour, flanked by Long Bay to the south and Sailors Bay to the north' — known for its bushland gullies, family homes and harbourfront prestige properties, with a community that cherishes the saltwater Northbridge Baths amid native bushland, the sailing club and the golf course with Middle Harbour views. Notable residents have included former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, federal MP Kylea Tink and former prime minister Bob Hawke. Long Gully Bridge, opened in 1892, is the suburb's recognised symbol, and Northbridge celebrated its centenary in 2013.

Northbridge has no railway station or ferry wharf and relies heavily on motor vehicles, supplemented by regular bus services to the Sydney CBD and Chatswood along its arterial roads, in particular Eastern Valley Way — including the long-standing 202 route, from which the Northbridge Progress Association newsletter takes its name (Dictionary of Sydney). Buses link the suburb to the city via North Sydney over the Long Gully Bridge, the historic 1892 suspension bridge that is Northbridge's only southern road connection. The closest rail is North Sydney station on the T1 North Shore line, a short bus ride across the bridge (Dictionary of Sydney).

Northbridge Public School — NSW government K-6 primary school at 296A Sailors Bay Road, the suburb's local public school (Northbridge Public School). Shore Preparatory School — Sydney Church of England Grammar School's Northbridge campus — provides co-educational early primary education (Kindergarten to Year 2), after which Shore's students move to the school's North Sydney campus from Year 3 (Shore). St Philip Neri Catholic Primary School at 67 Baringa Road is the suburb's Catholic primary; under Catholic Schools Broken Bay's north-shore restructure its community is joining St Thomas Willoughby on the Willoughby campus from 2026 (St Philip Neri; North Shore Mums). Northbridge has no high school within the suburb — secondary students travel to Willoughby, Chatswood or over the gully to North Sydney (Dictionary of Sydney).

Bush and water define Northbridge's outdoor life. The peninsula is flanked by Long Bay to the south and Sailors Bay to the north, with 19 parks covering nearly 28.6% of the suburb's 2.7 km². Northbridge Baths — a saltwater harbour pool set in native bushland — is a cherished community swimming spot. Northbridge Sailing Club, on the protected waters of Middle Harbour, runs learn-to-sail programs for children in calm waters, with the Tunks Park boat ramp nearby, and the Northbridge Golf Course offers scenic views over Middle Harbour. Hallstrom Point Park, on the site of the former 'Figtree House' home of philanthropist Edward Hallstrom, preserves part of the northern foreshore, and the western edge of the suburb meets the 21.1-hectare Flat Rock Gully bushland reserve — a Wildlife Protection Area with remnant bushland, walking tracks and picnic facilities that extends from Flat Rock Bridge on Willoughby Road east to the Long Gully Bridge.

Flō Northbridge — a boutique project offering five oversized luxury apartments including a four-bedroom penthouse and seven expansive townhomes. The former Northbridge Hotel site at 57-69 Strathallen Avenue is planned as a $45 million mixed-use development with 24 apartments above street-level retail, with plans filed with Willoughby Council by developer SJD. Willoughby Council resolved on 24 March 2025 to start reclassifying the Northbridge Plaza car park and surrounding council-owned land from community to operational land — a precursor to future town-centre renewal around the plaza precinct. Northbridge Plaza itself, a Dexus-owned neighbourhood centre, anchors the commercial heart of that precinct (Dexus).
