Quiet, leafy family suburb about 23 km north-west of the Sydney CBD in the City of Parramatta local government area, part of Greater Western Sydney. Oatlands was only declared a suburb in 1991 — the area was previously known as Dundas West; the name comes from Oatlands House, an 1830s homestead built by Percy Simpson whose surrounding estate land now forms the Oatlands Golf Course, opened in 1931, and whose grounds remain a function centre today. At the 2021 census the suburb had 5,833 residents and is strongly family-oriented: 81.5% of households were family households, the median age was 42 and 71.4% of homes were owner-occupied. Oatlands has no railway station or light rail stop within the suburb — the Parramatta Light Rail L4 corridor runs through neighbouring suburbs rather than Oatlands itself.
