Oyster Bay, NSW 2225

Quiet, leafy waterfront suburb on the southern shore of the Georges River, 26 km south of the Sydney CBD in the Sutherland Shire; it had 5,689 residents at the 2021 census. Named for the oysters once abundant in the bay (a name on maps since 1840), it was part of Thomas Holt's Sutherland estate, subdivided from the 1910s and officially recognised as a suburb in 1933, growing mainly with post-war housing. Green Point and Caravan Head are localities within the suburb, whose bush-edged peninsula between Oyster Bay, Coronation Bay and Carina Bay gives it a strong family and community character — the annual Oyster Bay Public School Arts and Craft Festival has run every May since 1970.

Oyster Bay has no railway station within the suburb — the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line runs along its western boundary with Como, with Como station (T4, between Oatley and Jannali) the nearest rail stop, about 1–2 km from the village; Jannali station lies to the south-west. Buses fill the gap: U-Go Mobility routes 967 and 968 link Oyster Bay with Jannali, Como/Como West, Kareela, Bonnet Bay and Westfield Miranda, with route 968 serving Como and Jannali stations, and the Oyster Bay village sits on the bus network's local corridor along Oyster Bay Road and Como Road. The heritage-listed 1885 Old Como railway bridge footbridge across the river at the suburb's western end connects walkers and cyclists through to Oatley on the north shore.

The Oyster Bay shops are a small village centre at the intersection of Como Road and Oyster Bay Road, just above the bay — including a post office, chemist, liquor shop, cafe, newsagency and bakery/cafe — with Oyster Bay Public School nearby. St Joseph Catholic Church sits on the Oyster Bay–Como border, with Oyster Bay Baptist Church at Green Point and Kingsway Community Church also serving the suburb. The suburb is predominantly residential, so day-to-day retail beyond the village means the bus or a short drive to larger centres at Miranda, Sutherland or Hurstville.

The Georges River waterfront defines the suburb: Oyster Bay itself, Coronation Bay and Carina Bay line its shore, with Coronation Bay's large mangrove area supporting a diverse ecosystem and birdlife, and 1930s-era steps and foreshore pathways still giving pedestrian access down to the water. Green Point Reserve is a playground in a leafy bushland reserve on the Green Point headland, Ward Crescent Reserve is a small leafy local playground park, and the suburb's bushland edges and ridge-top streets give water and bush views. Green Point is also home to the Green Point Observatory, the observatory of the Sutherland Astronomical Society.
