Small, exclusive bayside suburb of southern Sydney on the north shore of the Port Hacking estuary near its mouth, about 26 km south of the Sydney CBD in the Sutherland Shire LGA. At the 2021 census it had just 1,210 residents with an average weekly household income of $3,394 — among the highest in the region and nearly double the NSW average of $1,829 — reflecting an affluent, leafy, largely waterfront community of large family homes. The suburb shares its name with the estuary it fronts, and its notable former residents include Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
