One of Sydney's oldest suburbs - the local government area was proclaimed in February 1859, just after the City of Sydney, and Randwick remains the administrative centre for Randwick City Council. A leafy, heritage-rich Eastern Suburbs centre about 6 km south-east of the CBD, it mixes Victorian-era housing, tree-lined streets and a village heart around Avoca Street and Belmore Road, with Royal Randwick Racecourse occupying the suburb's north-western corner. Randwick High School - NSW government comprehensive co-educational secondary school (Years 7-12), which from the start of 2025 amalgamated the former Randwick Boys' and Randwick Girls' High Schools into one school (randwick-h.schools.nsw.gov.au; EducationDaily, 2025). Brigidine College Randwick - independent Catholic girls' secondary day school (Years 7-12), established 1901. Marcellin College Randwick - Catholic boys' secondary day school (Years 7-12) in the Marist tradition, established 1950.

UNSW Sydney's Randwick Clinical Campus (School of Clinical Medicine) is co-located with the Randwick teaching hospitals in the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, while the university's main Kensington campus lies in the adjoining suburb.

Shopping & Amenities

The Randwick town centre and Randwick Junction area around Belmore Road and Avoca Street hold the main shops, anchored by Royal Randwick Shopping Centre - Woolworths Metro, Harris Farm, Best & Less, Rebel Sport, the Randwick City Library, a medical centre and 50-plus specialty stores - and Randwick Plaza with its Coles supermarket.
