Richmond Lowlands is a tiny rural floodplain suburb of Sydney's outer north-west, sitting on the alluvial flats of the Hawkesbury River immediately north of Richmond township. It is an extremely quiet, sparsely settled place — the 2021 census recorded just 55 residents. The suburb has a long farming history: cattle breeding, including Moxie's dairy, was carried on here and there are many turf farms in the area today. At about 8 m above sea level it is some of the lowest-lying, most flood-prone land in the Hawkesbury floodplain, open paddocks and river flats rather than suburban streets.
