Bayside suburb on the peninsula where the Georges River meets Botany Bay, 17 km south of the CBD and part of the St George area. The name means 'without care' — a French play on the Prussian palace Sanssouci in Potsdam, after the grand house wool merchant Thomas Holt built on Rocky Point Road in 1853; the area grew around the Victorian-era hotel William Rust established on the property. Bus-based: Sans Souci has no railway station — the steam tram and later trolleybus link to Kogarah station that ran down Rocky Point Road was withdrawn in 1959, and services today are buses. Moovit lists routes 303, 476 and 477 among the services running near Sans Souci, and there is a direct bus between Kogarah and Sans Souci departing about every 10 minutes along Rocky Point Road. For rail travel, passengers connect at Kogarah or Carlton stations on the T4 Illawarra line.
