Springwood is the largest town in the lower Blue Mountains, a town of 8,423 people (2021 census) on a narrow ridge 72 km west of the Sydney CBD and 371 m above sea level, surrounded by Blue Mountains National Park and the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site. Its commercial heart runs along Macquarie Road, parallel to the Great Western Highway and the railway, with the Springwood & District Chamber of Commerce representing retailers, businesses and services across Springwood and surrounds. It has a strong family and community character — three high schools and five primary schools serve the town, and the annual Springwood Spring Festival (third Saturday in September), a large Anzac Day parade and Australasia's biggest Vietnam Veterans memorial parade are all held here. The town dates from circa 1815 (named by Governor Lachlan Macquarie), and its heritage-listed Victorian Gothic railway station (1884) is the second-oldest surviving station in the Blue Mountains.

Transport
Springwood railway station sits between Valley Heights and Faulconbridge on the Blue Mountains Line of the NSW TrainLink intercity network; the station site dates to 1868, with the surviving heritage-listed station building built in 1884. Blue Mountains Transit runs daily bus services through Springwood from Penrith and Winmalee, plus routes from Springwood to Burns Road, Springwood Hospital, Hazelbrook, Katoomba and Yellow Rock.
