Telopea is a residential suburb of Greater Western Sydney about 23 km north-west of the Sydney CBD, in the City of Parramatta local government area; at the 2021 census it had 5,356 residents. It is bordered by Kissing Point Road to the south and Pennant Hills Road to the north, and its housing is 'mainly low to low-medium density... most of the dwellings having been built after World War II', with the suburb bisected by the former Carlingford railway line — now the Parramatta Light Rail corridor — where most of its medium-density housing sits. Telopea is a quiet family suburb defined by its 1950s–60s estate homes and by the large public housing estate along the light rail corridor, which is being progressively redeveloped with new homes as part of the NSW government's Telopea urban renewal program.

Transport
Telopea is served by the Parramatta Light Rail L4 Westmead & Carlingford Line: Telopea light rail stop, on the site of the former Telopea railway station (closed January 2020 for conversion), opened with Stage 1 on 20 December 2024 and runs parallel to Adderton Road through the suburb. The 12 km L4 line connects Telopea with Carlingford, Dundas, Rydalmere, the Parramatta CBD and Parramatta station, and the Westmead health precinct. The area is also serviced by Busways bus routes 545 and 513 — route 545 runs Parramatta–Macquarie Park via Telopea and Eastwood.

Telopea Public School — NSW government K–6 primary school on Chestnut Avenue in Telopea (school website; AroundSchools). No high school sits within the suburb; secondary students travel to high schools in the neighbouring suburbs that ring Telopea.
Universities
No university campus sits inside Telopea. Western Sydney University's Parramatta South campus (corner of James Ruse Drive and Victoria Road) is in the adjacent suburb of Rydalmere, which borders Telopea to the south — about a 10-minute drive or a short trip on the L4 light rail from Telopea.

The main shopping area is the small Waratah Shopping Centre on Benaud Place, with retail shops including a newsagent, chemist, kebab shop, post office, bakery and a hair and beauty salon; a small group of shops also sits opposite the light rail stop on Adderton Road. The redevelopment of the Telopea estate and station precinct is planned to bring new neighbourhood retail with the new housing.

Telopea's western edge holds a large tract of protected bushland — the Vineyard Creek Reserve — with a spring-fed creek and several waterfalls on its course before it disappears beneath Kissing Point Road; the creek and bushland are protected as environmental areas.
