Compact family suburb in the Mount Druitt area of Western Sydney, about 46–47 km west of the Sydney CBD in the City of Blacktown LGA, covering just 163 hectares. The suburb takes its name from a homestead owned by the Lethbridge family, itself named after the family's estate in Cornwall; the land was held by the Lethbridge family until 1942, taken over by the RAAF and then sold in 1951 ahead of the area's post-war residential development. At the 2021 census Tregear had 3,700 residents — 15.9% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 30.1% born overseas — with slightly more men than women. It is a quiet, low-rise family suburb centred on its small Tregear shops, with a large portion of its area given over to Tregear Reserve and the Ropes Creek corridor.

Public transport is bus-based — Tregear has no railway station. Regular bus routes serve the suburb, connecting directly to St Marys, the area's primary commercial and transport hub, and route 780 links Tregear with Mount Druitt station's bus/rail interchange on its run from Mount Druitt to Penrith via Whalan, Tregear and Ropes Crossing. The nearest railway stations are Mount Druitt and St Marys, both on the T1 Western Line, a short bus ride away.

Tregear Public Primary School is the suburb's NSW government primary school, joined by Tregear Presbyterian Preschool Kindergarten and the Mini Masterminds Tregear early-learning centre.
