A modern, leafy family suburb roughly 30 km south-west of the Sydney CBD in the City of Liverpool LGA, built on former Australian Defence Force land of the Tharawal people. It began as a 1970s government plan and lay dormant until Delfin Property Group, with the Defence Housing Authority, developed it as a masterplanned residential estate in the early 1990s: the housing area was officially opened by Prime Minister Bob Hawke on 12 April 1991, and the suburb was renamed from Holsworthy Village to Wattle Grove in 1992. At the 2021 census it had 8,886 residents, and the housing stock is overwhelmingly detached — 97.5% of dwellings are separate houses — on generous lots (median 454 m² for houses sold), giving the suburb its tidy, leafy, family feel around Wattle Grove Lake. It sits right beside the Holsworthy Barracks army reserve and its bushland fringe.

Bus routes 901 and 902, operated by Transit Systems NSW, run within the suburb — route 901 connects Wattle Grove to Holsworthy railway station and Liverpool railway station. Route 902 also links to Liverpool station, and buses connect via Holsworthy station's interchange. The suburb is close to the M5 and M7 motorways for car travel. The nearest train station is Holsworthy on the T8 Airport & South Line.

The Anzac Village shopping area with its newer retail centre straddles the suburb border into adjacent Holsworthy. Wattle Grove Lake is an artificial lake at the suburb's heart, built by Delfin in 1990 as part of the residential development; it lies within the Georges River catchment and is a wildlife reserve home to water birds including ducks and swans on an inaccessible island. The lake is completely surrounded by Lakeside Park, with two play areas, fitness stations and a 15-minute walking trail around the water. Other open space includes Wattle Grove Park and Australis Park, and Anzac Creek runs into the lake. The suburb's southern edge meets the bushland of the Holsworthy Barracks reserve.
