One of Sydney's newest suburbs, on the western shore of Homebush Bay at the southern side of the Parramatta River about 13 km west of the CBD, Wentworth Point was carved from reclaimed and former-industrial land — it was renamed from 'Homebush Bay' and gazetted as a suburb in 2009, then rezoned from industrial to residential use in 2013, triggering one of Sydney's fastest high-rise booms. At the 2021 census its population had leapt 81.6% in five years to 12,703 residents — young, multicultural, with a median household income above the NSW median and an almost entirely apartment housing stock. Property trackers describe a compact high-rise profile with about 99.8% of dwellings apartments and a rental-heavy market, making it a waterside suburb aimed at young professionals, investors and families drawn to marina-side living and Homebush Bay views at prices well below neighbouring Rhodes (censusatlas; Oli Property). Transport
Wentworth Point has no railway station — the closest stations are Rhodes and Sydney Olympic Park — and is served by buses: route 526 runs from Burwood to Rhodes via Wentworth Point, route 533 connects Chatswood with Sydney Olympic Park through the suburb, and a local shuttle began operating when the Bennelong Bridge opened in May 2016. The 300-metre Bennelong Bridge across Homebush Bay (opened 22 May 2016) carries buses, emergency vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians only, linking Wentworth Point's Footbridge Boulevarde to Gauthorpe Street in Rhodes and its T9 Northern Line station. The Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf sits at the northern end of Wentworth Point on the Parramatta River ferry network — upgraded to two docks in 2015, and brought inside the suburb boundary in the July 2023 boundary amendment — with regular services to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Parramatta.

Marina Square — the suburb's town centre and main shopping centre, opened 21 November 2018 by developer Billbergia on a former warehouse site: about 12,000 m² of retail with a 4,200 m² Coles supermarket, 45 specialty stores including around 15 restaurants and cafes, and community services, sitting beneath 765 apartments in seven buildings up to 25 storeys. Smaller local shops, cafes and restaurants line the waterfront streets. Wentworth Point also has a recreation club with an indoor heated pool, outdoor pool, gym and tennis courts.

New Developments
Wentworth Point is the product of one of Sydney's most concentrated urban-renewal programs: from 2013 rezoning of reclaimed industrial land, high-density residential phases have risen across the peninsula, and the population is projected to grow to around 25,000 by 2030. Marina Square — Billbergia's mixed-use town centre of 765 apartments in seven towers up to 25 storeys above retail — opened in November 2018, and Billbergia lists a further 'Wentworth Point Town Centre' stage among its current projects. The suburb boundary was amended in July 2023 to add the Jewel Residences and Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf area north of Burroway Road plus the 'Sanctuary' development west of Hill Road, and NSW Maritime still owns about 18 hectares at the northern end of the point earmarked for proposed maritime and boat-storage facilities. Social infrastructure is racing to catch up: the Wentworth Point Public School Stage 2 upgrade is underway and the new Wentworth Point High School opened in 2025.

Sydney Olympic Park — the major employment, events and health precinct immediately south of the suburb (stadiums, events, offices, research and health uses) — is the dominant nearby employment destination. Locally, Marina Square's Coles supermarket, 45 specialty stores and 15 restaurants plus waterfront hospitality provide retail and food-service jobs, and many residents commute to the Sydney CBD via Rhodes station across the Bennelong Bridge or by ferry from the wharf. The suburb's unemployment was just 1.7% at the 2021 census with an 81.4% labour-force participation rate (2021 Census via ABS QuickStats).
