Quiet, entirely residential suburb of Western Sydney about 50 km west of the Sydney CBD, in Penrith City Council's north ward; the suburb has a high proportion of separate dwellings. The land was granted to Mary King, daughter of Governor Philip Gidley King, in 1806 and farmed until the early 1980s, when lots were sold for the residential and commercial development that formed today's suburb — so housing stock is predominantly 1980s-90s family homes. It sits at a higher altitude than most Penrith suburbs, and at the 2021 census had 3,698 residents.

Transport
Werrington County has no railway station; the nearest is Werrington railway station on the T1 Western Line, which provides direct train services to the Sydney CBD. Busways runs bus services through the suburb: route 780 travels along Dunheved Road past the Werrington County Shopping Village before continuing to Penrith or Mount Druitt, and route 785 travels via Cambridge Park to Werrington railway station, covering parts of Werrington County. Drivers have quick access to Penrith via Dunheved Road or the Great Western Highway, and to the M4 Western Motorway via Kent Road.
Schools
Werrington County Public School — NSW government primary school on John Batman Avenue, established in 1982 and officially opened in 1993. Secondary students are served by Cambridge Park High School, the NSW government Years 7-12 school in adjoining Cambridge Park to the west. Werrington Public School, another government primary, sits in adjoining Werrington to the south (Facebook school page).
Shopping & Amenities
The suburb's commercial heart is the Werrington County Shopping Village on Dunheved Road, which includes a medical centre, and the Namatjira Neighbourhood Centre; there is also a child care centre plus tennis, golf, squash and other sporting facilities. Werrington County has no train station, but St Marys Shopping Centre is only a few minutes' drive away in adjoining St Marys, which borders the suburb to the east across Werrington Creek.
Parks & Outdoors
Werrington County has five parks covering nearly 29% of its total area, including Shaw Park, Ellison Reserve and the Werrington Lakes Flora & Fauna Reserve. Werrington Creek runs along the suburb's eastern border and Werrington Lakes lies on the south-western corner. The suburb's elevated position and open reserves make it a leafy, wildlife-friendly pocket — emus have been photographed strolling along Ellison Reserve.

New supply is mostly infill on remaining lots, with the broader area's growth focus next door — Penrith City Council put its draft East-West Corridor: Kingswood-Werrington Structure Plan (a 20-year vision covering Kingswood, Werrington, Caddens and parts of adjoining Cambridge Park) on public exhibition in May 2026, and the new Werrington Lakes estate adjoins the suburb's south-western corner.
