Woodcroft, NSW 2767

Family suburb about 37 km west of the Sydney CBD in the City of Blacktown LGA, part of the Greater Western Sydney region. The suburb grew out of the old State Brickworks in Doonside (the site of the State Timberworks before 1969 and the State Brickworks 1969-1988): LJ Hooker purchased the land in 1989, residential construction commenced in 1992 after rezoning, and Woodcroft was formally recognised as a suburb in 1996. Its housing stock is overwhelmingly modern, single detached homes - roughly 19% are townhouses or semi-detached - giving the suburb a spacious, contemporary family feel, with a population that grew from 1,683 in 1996 to 6,597 at the 2021 census. Locals describe it as a 'very nice outer west suburb' that shares its 2767 postcode with Doonside (Homely), and Woodcroft Lake and the Neighbourhood Centre on Bricketwood Drive are popular community focal points.

ACU Blacktown (Saint Josephine Bakhita Campus) - Australian Catholic University's newest campus, at 22 Main Street in the Blacktown CBD - lies in the suburb of Blacktown, which directly borders Woodcroft to the east. Opened on 12 March 2021 in partnership with Blacktown City Council, it offers nursing, law, science and other undergraduate and postgraduate courses (ACU; SBS).

Shopping & Amenities

A modest independent retail mall on Richmond Road serves the suburb's day-to-day needs, with a service station, supermarket, doctor's surgery and a variety of independent and franchise fast-food outlets. The Woodcroft Neighbourhood Centre beside Woodcroft Lake on Bricketwood Drive - opened in 2019 to a design by Carter Williamson Architects, replacing an earlier centre destroyed by fire in 2015 - hosts community services and the annual Woodcroft Festival. For bigger shopping trips, residents head to adjacent Blacktown or Doonside (kiddle).
