Established, family-oriented suburb of the Sutherland Shire about 24 km south of the Sydney CBD, on low-lying ground between Woolooware Bay on the lower Georges River estuary and Burraneer Bay and Gunnamatta Bay on the Port Hacking estuary, immediately west of Cronulla. The name comes from the Dharawal word 'Wooloowa', meaning muddy track, reflecting the tea-tree, mangrove and mudflat country that was reclaimed from the 1950s into parks, playing fields and the 18-hole public golf course after the Cronulla railway opened in 1939. The 2021 census counted 5,060 residents, 79.7% of them born in Australia. Woolooware is best known as home of the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks: their home ground Endeavour Field (now branded Sharks Stadium/Ocean Protect Stadium) and the Sharkies Leagues Club sit on Captain Cook Drive in the suburb, and the roughly $1 billion 'Woolooware Bay' town-centre development around the stadium has added apartments, the Bay Central shopping centre and waterfront dining over the past decade.

Woolooware railway station is in the suburb, on the Cronulla branch of the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra line between Caringbah and Cronulla, with Opal-accessible all-stops double-deck services to the Sydney CBD and Bondi Junction; the station was refurbished and the line duplicated in the 2010s, and it is a short walk from the Wills Road shops and the stadium precinct. U-Go Mobility bus routes serve the area — 962 (Cronulla to Bankstown, weekends), 969 (Cronulla to Sutherland), 971 (Cronulla to Hurstville) and 988 (Cronulla to Caringbah, weekdays) — and shuttle buses run from the station to the stadium precinct on match days. Main roads are Gannons Road, the Kingsway, Captain Cook Drive (to Kurnell and Miranda) and Burraneer Bay Road.

The Woolooware Bay town centre is the suburb's defining development: a roughly $1 billion, four-stage waterfront community built from the mid-2010s on former Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks club land around Endeavour Field on Captain Cook Drive, developed by Aoyuan International and Capital Corporation; the fourth and final stage ('Bayview', about 255 apartments) incorporates the 18,000 m² Bay Central Shopping Centre, a waterfront dining precinct, a 71-room hotel, gym and childcare, while earlier stages are sold out and the Sharkies Leagues Club was refurbished as part of the project. Endeavour Field itself was redeveloped within the project — following naming eras as Remondis Stadium and PointsBet Stadium, the ground is now branded Sharks Stadium, with Ocean Protect as current naming-rights partner. Bay Central was placed on the market for sale via expressions of interest around 2025–26. Note: the neighbouring Woolooware Golf Course was not built over — it continues to operate as an 18-hole public course (Golf NSW).
