Residential suburb in southern Sydney about 29 km south of the Sydney CBD, in the Sutherland Shire, sitting on the Woronora Plateau escarpment above the Woronora River, which bounds the suburb in the west. The name comes from an Aboriginal word recorded as wooloonora, said to mean 'black rock', believed to have been applied by Surveyor Dixon in 1828. The suburb was officially named in 1982 and residential development began in the 1980s, with the extension of Bundanoon Road providing access to the subdivision; most streets are named after birds. At the 2021 census it had 2,781 residents. It is a leafy, family-oriented suburb of detached houses on the escarpment, many with views across the bush-clad Woronora River valley, adjoining the separate riverfront suburb of Woronora to the north.

Transport
Woronora Heights has no railway station — the nearest stations are Engadine and Loftus on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra line, in immediately adjacent suburbs. Public transport is bus-based: U-Go Mobility operates route 993, a loop service between Westfield Miranda and Woronora Heights that also links the suburb to Engadine. The suburb's bush setting is deliberately road-quiet: proposals to open the fire trail linking Woronora Heights to the Woronora valley to the north for through traffic or buses were rejected by an Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel in 2006, and Sutherland Shire Council voted unanimously in July 2014 to keep the trail closed to through traffic except for emergencies.

There is no school physically inside Woronora Heights — no NSW government or non-government school is registered in the suburb, and the Woronora Heights Public School name does not exist. Government primary students are served from the immediately adjacent suburb of Engadine: Engadine West Public School is the local intake school for Woronora Heights addresses, about 3–4 km away via Warrangarree Drive. Government secondary students are zoned to Heathcote High School (Wilson Parade, Heathcote, a few kilometres south through Yarrawarrah), which runs a dedicated school-bus service (route S211) from Bundanoon Road in Woronora Heights ; Engadine High School in adjacent Engadine is the other nearby public secondary.
